Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Electoral reforms are essential for ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections, which are the cornerstone of democratic governance. In Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State, the awareness of electoral reforms is crucial for empowering voters and ensuring their active participation in the electoral process. Broadcasting, especially through radio and television, plays a vital role in informing the public about electoral reforms, including changes in voting procedures, electoral laws, and the role of electoral bodies. These broadcasts are often used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders to communicate reforms and educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities during elections (Aliyu & Bello, 2023; Umar & Ibrahim, 2024). This study seeks to assess the impact of broadcasting on public awareness of electoral reforms in Chanchaga LGA.
